The focus of the conference is to provide new students with an introduction to campus and university life. Could someone please maybe briefly describe the types of activities that take place at the conference. I have very little or almost next to no leadership experience so I'm a little hesitant in deciding whether to register or not.

Thank you

You first go and get into your accommodation and get the little welcome package including name tag and t-shirt. When everyone (or mostly) arrives, you'll be splitting up into smaller groups with your leaders where they will lead a bunch of activities. These activities are meant to allow you to get to know people better, teach you/make you realize some skills you have to know to prepare you for university, and let you stimulate some thought. Whether you reflect on these are really up to you.

You'll mostly being doing activities with your core group, but you'll have other chances to meet others as well. There will also be a small session with older students in your faculty to ask some questions. Some social activities I remember were a toga party and bowling...it's been a couple of years since I've been at Horizons, but they were all really fun, from what I can remember.

I won't get into too much detail, just in case they do the same activities I did when I did Horizons (2010), but everyone is in the same boat as you. I have very little leadership and at the beginning of this weekend, my group was overwhelmed because it was awkward, and a bit quiet, but by the end of it, everyone was screaming, shouting and having a lot of fun! Horizons was just a nice way to get to educate yourself about McMaster, yourself, and also meet a bunch of new people and I do recommend going.

Speaking as both a former delagate and staff member, I'd recommend Horizons to any incoming first-year at Mac.

While most people there have some idea of what to expect and some leadership experience, I went in with no idea what to expect and no experience whatsoever. But the experience left me much more social and with more confidence than I had before and it played a huge part in who I am today. It's just a leadership conference on the surface, but I saw it as a mini-Welcome Week (and indeed, you'll have an advantage over other first-years in that you'll be more familiar with the cheers, activities, and campus). You're going to meet a bunch of new people and there's no better feeling than being able to walk around a huge (relative to high school) campus and recognize someone wherever you go.

The activities themselves are fun and even though you'll only have known your group members and leaders for two full days, it'll feel like you've been with them for a lifetime. The experience is hard to properly put into words, but it's really like nothing else (except CLAY I guess, if you're familiar with that).

The price can be a little steep but I can pretty much guarantee that no delegate is going to regret having signed up for it.

tl;dr: sign up, don't look back. You won't regret it.

Rucha... HORIZONS IS A NO BRAINER! Speaking as a past delegate and multi-year staff member of Horizons, you will not regret going! Sign up. Go. You will LOVE IT.

Horizons definitely helped me come out of my 'shell' in first year and inspired me to start this site as a student club back in 2007. MacInsiders essentially wouldn't be what it is today without Horizons.

You will:
- Have a 'team' with 2 leaders that will show you loads of great leadership building activities that you'll do as a group
- You will meet DOZENS of new friends that will be long-time friends for your whole 4 years at Mac. Many icebreaker games to get you meeting new people, even if you're shy.
- You will bond and connect with so many people that you will be upset when it all comes to an end.
- You'll have so many amazing memories to remember forever.

I filled out the survey for Horizons on MSU website and when I submitted the answers, I received a message saying, "Thank you for submitting the responses!" However, I was not directed to the page where I am supposed to make my payment. Did I do something wrong? Thank you!
