Review on Music 1a03 and 1aa3??
In second year, wondering whether Music 1a03/1aa3 are easier electives to take?

Hi,

They are aboth very enjoyable and easy electives to take. It will give you a better appreciation for music, especially classical.

I'd definitely recommend taking Music 1AA3! I took it with Dr Mitchell last summer and it was a lot of fun. You just show up to class, write down everything the prof says (laptop >> pen and paper), read over your notes a couple times before the tests, and you're set. There wasn't too much of a focus on textbook material, but it's still a good idea to do the readings because maybe 2 or 3 questions per test will come from the text. You will also be tested on some musical pieces... you're given a list of songs ahead of time, then a couple are played during the test, and you have to identify the name of the piece and the composer (easy marks if you take the time to prepare).

If you do end up taking Music 1A03 and/or 1AA3 and want the textbook & CD set, let me know, I'm selling them for cheap

I think there's a different prof for summer and fall/winter terms. Also, I think the summer one is easier because it's just tests - there may be a written component (essay?) for the fall/winter one.

So... Check with someone that's taken it during the fall/winter term just to be sure.

Good luck!

I took 1AA3 with Gerry. I've taken RCM history courses, and if you have too it will be the easiest course ever otherwise just keep up with the listening, like putting all the pieces on an iPod playlist and listening exclusively to it for a week also work. He did test some small details and in-class only things.

There was a concert review, you can go to pretty much any concert that isn't pop and you write a review on it. It was 20% of your mark but it was only 2 pages double spaced, and the content was: who performed, what you liked, would you go again. I think 70% people got perfect

Honestly everyone should get at least a 10 in the class if you put any effort in, but half the class skips
