Science 3A03
Is anyone else taking the new Science 3A03 course? Looks like we'll be TAing (?) 3 times a week with one tutorial to meet up

I was actually curious about the schedule - do you know if the tutorial is mandatory?
I really want to take the course but the tutorial conflicts with another class :/

Bumpp - anyone else taking this one? Timetable says you'll be teaching half hour slots x2 each week

Are we TAing?! Does anyone have a general format of this course (apart from attending the 3 cores and 1 tutorial)?
EDIT: If you look at the mail we had received initially it says that we have 3 hours of seminar and 3 hours of tutorial.. so I don't think we're teaching/TA-ing.

I'm also taking this course. I don't think we're TAing, but I don't really know much about it at all. Since there's only one tutorial slot, I'm guessing that's when we'd be doing the peer mentoring one-on-one or in small groups of first years, while the core slots are for instructing us on how to be a good mentor or something?? I don't really know, this is all guessing.

Yeah, all I know is that we're being evaluated during tutorials + marked based on feedback from profs, and we'll be mentoring students in SCIENCE 1A03.

Interesting...I hadn't heard of 1A03 before. I input 1A03 and 3A03 into the timetable generator and it looks like we share cores (example attached, same time and place).

After talking to Sarah, Science 3A03 students are supposed to work with students in science 1A03 to guide and mentor them. It can be considered TAing but its kind of like peer-to-peer help more than marking their assignments and giving them a grade. The planned assessments were to be a final presentation, instructor evaluation based on how you interact with the students, journals, tutorial participation and evaluations done by students in science 1A03 to see how well you were throughout the semester. After talking to her, i decided to drop the course since it seemed like a hit or miss course to me, especially since the instructors control your mark through their view of how you interacted with students and the journals being a good chunk of your mark (bad experience with journals in astron 2b03 even though I'm a good writer). Sounds like a interesting course but with new courses there are bound to be some disorganization and mistakes made by the instructional team which will be corrected for next yr which is why I'm dropping the course. Just my two cents.
