This course (which is generally new, since Shakespeare was previously taught as a 6 unit course) focuses on the genres of comedy and romance. The plays included this year were: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, Measure for Measure and the Tempest. The course break down is as follows:

12 Avenue quizzes — 10%
Play Review Tests — 20%
Lecture Attendance — 5% (2 lectures per week)
Tutorial (Attendance + Participation) — 10%
Tutorial (Assignments) — 15%
Essay Proposal — 10%
Essay Final — 30%
Exam — 25%

The weekly quizzes are generally easy, although the ‘essay’ question at the end definitely requires some thinking. The format of the quizzes include multiple choice, short answer and one final long answer ‘essay’ question. As long as you keep up with the play readings, you will do perfectly fine. The tests are difficult, but fair. They include multiple choice questions, short answer, and essay questions. The course includes understanding scansion and close reading. I would recommend great essay writing skills for this class.

The professor, Dr. Grisé, is absolutely amazing. She appreciates in-lecture discussion and is always willing to see different perspectives. She is also very accommodating and flexible with schedules. She makes you feel like an important individual, which is always awesome. Dr. Grisé uses multiple teaching methods including powerpoint, enlarger and in-class discussion.

Overall, a fantastic class that I loved! Highly recommend.
