I took it two years ago with McKerrow, his lecturing style is painfully boring, and he spends a good chunk of time talking about 'educational attainment' so I was disappointed because I thought we would be spending a good chunk of time talking about the educational institution. However, he is a very understanding and easygoing person. His tests are VERY hard, he gives you the questions of his multiple choice tests beforehand (without the possible choices) but they are worded very cryptically and the choices may be completely different than what you studied. The tutorials were amazing though because we had probably the best TA imaginable (she's now a prof in the sociology department, Steph Howells). There is also an essay where you can write about any topic on soc of ed. Also, be warned he has bizarre requirements for formatting, so you'll get docked marks if you don't do it right. So I'll give this course a 7/10, has the potential to be interesting, but other times it's awful. I did wind up with a 10 at the end, so it's possible to do get a good mark if you put in a lot of work.
