Sociol 2Q06

I took sociology of gender last year and really enjoyed it. The professor Dr. Joanisse is not the most exciting lecturer, but her lectures are extremely straightforward. She takes attendance with the iClicker, so it is important to go to lectures. Her tests are also straightforward which I appreciate. There was also an optional tutorial at the end of lecture.

The material itself was very interesting, we talked about how males and females are socialized, family life, gender and the workforce, masculinity, gender and education, just to name a few.

We had to do a scavenger hunt for our assignment, we were given a list of items to find, and we were to discuss the items using concepts from lecture and readings. This assignment wasn't too challenging, and was enjoyable to do as well. Not being required to do any research was a plus as well.

Here's the breakdown:
10%-Attendance/Participation with iClicker
15%-First Midterm
20%-First Exam
15%-Second Midterm
20%-Assignment
20%-Final Exam

Is this similar to 2q03? Would you consider this a "Bird" course? (looking for some easier courses to boost my average)

Ummm Soc Sci 2Q03? I'm not too sure, I'm sure they are relatively similar, people I know who have taken the Soc Sci courses have said they're interesting. There is a midterm and final each worth 50%. I'd definitely consider 2Q06 to be a bird course. I got a 92 on the second semester midterm (the only 90 I've ever gotten in uni).

There's only a midterm and exam in Soc Sci 2Q03? Or in 2Q06.

I don't see 2Q06 as a course, so I couldn't take it anyways.

I found the textbooks to be useless most of the time, she pretty much reads them to you, but I did need to use them for the assignment, and she expects you to draw from both readings and lecture for it.

They both are useful, as the professor draws from readings from both books. The reading just makes the classes much easier to follow.

agreed the content was interesting and the lectures incredibly straightforward, the text is only usefuk for the assignments, so I suggest pay attention during the lectures, take copious notes and you will do fine.

The two midterms were multiple choice, and the two exams were a mix of multiple choice and short answer.
