Sociology 3G03

I took this course in term 1. The material of this course was fairly interesting. Every lecture would start off with a history lesson in medicine. We looked at things such as the iron lung, the stethoscope, and leprosy to name a few. We also went over the major sociological theories and how they apply to healthcare. We covered such things as medical dominance, professionalization, attitudes towards health care and health policy. After covering the selected topic for the lecture, we would then do a summary of the readings. Professor Gillett is very passionate about what he does and he is caring about his students. Because he is passionate, he tends to ramble on about things he finds very interesting, and tends to go off topic. It can be hard to focus sometimes, but he's easy to follow ones he goes back into the lecture material.

The course breakdown is very simple, four tests worth 25% each, no final exam. 2 tests were all multiple choices, and the other two were a mix of short answer and multiple choice, they were non cumulative. Overall, I'd suggest this course to anyone who is interested in becoming a health professional to get an understanding of how the system works. It helped me think of my role as a future social worker on a healthcare team and what I will be able to contribute.

tests were very easy, as long as you read the lecture notes and skin through the text you'll be fine.

Have any of you taken SOCIO3W03 or SOCIO3O03? I'm having trouble on deciding which one to take!
