				SOCS Welcome Week
It looks like there isn't anything planned for off-campus students on Saturday the 4th when the residences are having their welcome ceremonies. I am going to be moved in already and was curious if there would be any welcome week type activities for me to participate in that day. |

 | Could someone possibly give me a description of some of the SOCS events during welcome week, because unlike most of the other welcome week events, there's no description on the FYE website, and the titles are kind of vague.
Nonetheless, super excited for welcome week! |

 | I was curious about the SOCS events as well, but I don't mind surprises. About Saturday the 4th though, I noticed that the McMaster women's and men's soccer teams were playing home games at Ron Joyce Stadium and I was thinking on watching those if there wasn't anything else planned for the off-campus students that day. Anyone who is going to be on or around campus that day is welcome to join me!That way we can make some new friends while the residence students are meeting their room and floor mates.

 | SOCS participates in about 90% of the events that the rez do so we will be participating in the macconnector, pj parade, bed racers, etc.
But what we also do is we have a monday night social, we have an olympics (which I am running) and in the olympics we have balloon toss, 'cup flip', obstacle course, name that tune, and a bunch of other fun games, we do westdale food tours, we run the casino night and a couple more that I can't think of off the top of my head. It's a good time though

Nonetheless, super excited for welcome week! | Yea schedule thing doesn't tell us about when SOCS welcome week start. Last year I called up the school and they told me it starts on Sunday at 10. So, arrive near student center on sunday around 9-10 and you will see tents and people distributing macpass. later, you will also be assigned to a group leader who will keep you guys updated on the events going on participate in activities with you guys. Pretty much everyday you would have to be their by 9 and stay till late at night. It was fun and hopefully it will be fun for you guys as as well
Saturday will be pretty much not important because only few residents would have moved in since the move-in day continues till sunday.

PS: Also all the activities listed there are also for SOCS except for the ones on saturday. Last edited by mcmastergcdb : 08-22-2010 at 11:34 PM.

 | Does anyone know if there are events going on for SOCS students on Sunday before the evening social/dinner? If so, at what time do they start? |

 | The MacQuest and McMaster Expo starting at 11:30am and 1:30pm respectively in the centre of campus are open to us I believe. Someone correct me if I am wrong, because I am planning on going to those. |

 | Oh, ooops. I just found a schedule that says the opening ceremonies for SOCS starts at 8:30 am plus those events, lol. So nevermind my other question, haha.
 What's the Mac Expo?

 | Weird, the schedule I was mailed says nothing about a socs opening ceremonies. I have no idea what Mac Expo is, it is written on the calendar that was mailed to us as part of the MSU 2010-2011 guidebook.
Any SOCS reps wanna clear this up for us? What do we get to do Sunday morning?

 | Hey guys...
Can someone from SOCS post up here or e-mail me ([email protected] com) with the SOCS WW schedule as well as detailed descriptions, times, and locations, of all the SOCS events? (ie. olympics, etc). I need to add them to our MacInsiders WW Schedule of Events thread so people know about them.. since it's hard to find anything about SOCS WW events online. SOCS website is outdated (socs.ca) |

 | I found this on the FYE website and it seems to have the time and location for all of the SOCS and other events. Not sure if it's final or anything though. |

 | So to answer a couple questions
 1) The SOCS opening ceremonies is at 10am on the Sunday after the pancake breakfast. It is the SOCS connector. So Sunday morning we meet in the student centre, go have a pancake breakfast and SOCS opening ceremonies in the gym. We then do the Mac Expo which is kind of like the amazing race. We then go to watch IRIS followed by dinner, karaoke and dancing. Once you are exhausted you go home and get ready for the fun on Monday

 2) I have just sent Chad the e-mail of the week so hopefully it will be posted soon. SOCS has there own welcome week schedule but as you will see a lot overlaps.

 3) So this year is really different. Last year they built the price of the SOCS membership into the welcome week pass and once you bought your MacPass you could attend welcome week and were a SOCS member. This year those fees are seperate so yes you need to buy a pass to attend the SOCS events and $5 for a SOCS membership which is so worth it. The memberships jump back up to $20 after welcome week.
