-Emotionally, I think everyone wants someone similar to themselves:

Myself, I pride myself on my strong set of morals, my intellect (and in particular, the fact that I can have a conversation about academic things without it becoming too cumbersome), "the gift of shame" (TM), honesty, and devotion to my family/friends.

Naturally I sought a girl who had the same qualities (in slightly differing quantities, since we're all different).

-Physically, I think everyone wants someone more attractive than they are, even if this is a 'minor' quality. If you call your attractiveness x, and your perceived partner's attractiveness y, then (y-x) is a measure of how much more attractive your partner is. If you are a confident individual, then having a very large (y-x) won't phase you, while if you're the sort of reserved, maybe insecure, (y-x) should be kept rather small.

I am however a firm believer that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Other factors have an influence on (y-x), and the degree to which other factors do, indicates how important physical features are to an individual.

-Lastly, common interests are key...but only to a certain extent. It's nice to be able to discuss video games, etc. if they're something you truly enjoy, but you also want to have a few things that give you your sense of free space, promoting comfort with the prospect of being a bit distant. Because it happens in life, and the last thing you want to do is start accusing each other of this or that for stupid reasons.
