U-Haul & Such
So... here's my dilemma. I'm moving from one place to the other in Hamilton tomorrow. My parents don't drive, so some family friends promised they would come down to Hamilton with us (I live in Toronto) and rent a truck with us. We asked them to call U-Haul in Hamilton, but they aren't answering at all...
Our family friend, took waaaay too long to tell us that they aren't answering, and all the other U-Haul locations are closed now.
So does anyone know if we can like, go on the day of straight to the U-haul location and rent a truck there, or is it always a call-ahead sort of thing? Does anyone recommend other movers that are better that I or someone else could use in the future? Thanks for any responses. We're calling up anybody we know to get some last minute movers but it's not looking so great haha.

do you need a u-haul truck?
if your room isn't furnished than you'd need one I guess.
And have you tried the yellowpages for other services similar to uhaul? I'm sure there are (or check Google).

You could try checking out the U-Haul website.

You dont need to call ahead. Ive rented one on the spot before. The only problem you may have is limited sizes available.

Yeah, I've been yellowpaging. The U-Haul site is sort of useless since all their locations in both Toronto and Hamilton are closed now. Thanks guys. :]

I've had bad luck with last minute U-Haul reservations before. You might want to try car rental places taht have vans/trucks, like Discount. For last minute rentals, they're usually a better bet, and I believe Discount has a 24 hour reservation number you can call to get one, or at least check availability.

UHual doesn't watch enough Seinfeld.
They are great at making the reservation but not keeping it.
Avoid them when possible or you will screwed over like a good chunck of their customers.
Some places you can show up and get a rental. Now if someone is reading this on the last week of august the chances of getting one last minute is slim to none.

U-haul trucks can be quite sketchy.

Yeesh. U-Haul seems to be really ballsy. As in it totally fails.

Reeves got me thinking; You might want to try to rent a Ford Transit Van for the day. I can't imagine it being too expensive, and it's pretty huge. Then again, UHaul might be cheaper.
Just a potential alternative.

Try Budget up on Upper James Street:
http://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontari...l/4364286.html
I've gone to them several times before and they do a good job in my opinion.

U-Haul's are sketchy.
Although i've rented them twice, on the spot, I don't like how they're kept. They usually have randoms renting out their trucks for them. For example shady motels, with 5-6 U-Haul's in the back. Not very professional, and they'll lose your reservation anyways, might as well just walk-in and book. That happened to be both times.
Just a heads up.

Presumably the next time you come online, you'll be moved! (:
So how did it go?

Well the friends who bailed on us before turned up miraculously, and we ended up going with U-haul. They were pretty nice about it, although we did call in this morning to make the reservation.
The only hard part about the day was loading the damn truck. I'm so getting rid of some of my stuff, too heavy. >.>
