Upper years in residence
This is a curious question to upper years who have applied to residence in their second, third, or fourth ... have you ever been wait listed? or have you always gotten in on the guaranteed list for res?

It says on the residence home-page that Upper-years have guaranteed status if they have >5.0 CA.

also, just say you're applying to res in second year and you have an above 5.0 average but the person you want to roomie with has below that average is there a chance that the one with the higher average will get the rooom but the one with the low average will not leaving the roomless?

I knew someone in a similar situation. One of them got into rez the other one didn't. I think they're very strict about the 5.0 average.

I read that they let the upper years know by March 1st.
What if my friend had a bad first semester but did significantly well in second semester, do they look at your grades from second sem?

If you have below a 5.0 you're put at the bottom of the residence waiting list and are unlikely to get a spot. They're very strict about this.

Hey guys,
After you make the deposit of $600, will you ever get a chance to refund that $600? I found a chart that if you cancel your assignment before July 9, you'll get only $300 back :S. Why is that?? I hope i'm misunderstanding this!
~Thanks

If you're on the waiting list you can get your full refund back. If you're on the guaranteed list you can only get $300 back. So the only chance you'll get to refund it fully is if you're on the waiting list.

Also, what grades do they look for if you're in first year going into second year?
Will they only look at first semesters?

5.0 is a sessional average. It is not First Term. It is Sept-April. What the kid did in the first few months of school doesn't matter crap. He could get all 0's first term, all 12's second, and still get into residence. woo.hoo.

So if you get an offer for your 5th choice, you can't even refund the $600 back?!

I think there's a certain leeway time that you can get your full refund back like a day or two or something like that. Check on the housing website where they have the time line where they need funds to be received by. They tell you when your deadlines are for getting your money back.
