Urgent! What to do if I can't take all 10 courses?
So I'm in Level 2 Life Sciences, and I have a problem. I'm was just on SOLAR applying for the remainder of my courses and apparently they're full (I just checked two days ago and they were empty). I'm trying to fill them in with electives and stuff, but a lot of those have been filled already too. I'm not sure if I'll be able to take all 10 courses.

What happens if I can't take a full course load? Is there a minimum amount of course you have to take for the year? Also, who can I talk to at the university to discuss these options. I was searching on the website for an academic advisor or something of the sort, but I couldn't get any contact info. It'd be best if I can get a phone number or go in and talk in person.

Also, what is the policy about taking a year off from university? Can it even be done at Mac without penalty (or even de-enrollment)? I've tried searching for info on this but I couldn't find anything, so I fear it may not even be possible at Mac.

I know it's possible but don't have the information off hand so somebody else may be able to advise you better.

If you need 10 courses, you contact the department that offers the course. I.e. You need Chemistry? You contact the Chem department.

For seats in Life Sci courses, contact Sarah Robinson (http://www.science.mcmaster. ca/lif.../contacts.html)

You do not have to take 10 courses, but you need 40 to graduate, unless you were planning to take summer school. You may also need it for some professional/grad schools which may require a full course load but that's really dependent on what you need

Thank you very much. I'll look into that.

Also, say you're in a program that takes 4 years to complete, do you have to complete it in four year? If you don't have all the required courses, can you stay back another year to complete them before getting your degree?

Yes you can go back another year. This coming year I'm taking a reduced course load, and doing 2 courses in the summer; this may be a option you could look into.

You wont be penalized by Mac its self, but if you want to apply to med schools, a some of them require that you had a full course load every year. If thats a big deal to you, take a bird course as filler
