useful courses?
k so just a disclaimer.... all courses are useful in their own way...but yea...

anyways i was wondering what courses you guys have taken that are useful/provide useful skills for life...

for example media 1b03 - the digital image, you learn about photo shop and photography and such. sure it may not seem like a useful course for a bio major but it can come in handy when making projects and you learn good tips on photography ( a bit)

so are there any other general 'useful' courses that you guys know of?

Honestly, this may be a biased perspective, but I think a lot of the courses in the Humanities would be good for the future. They aren't black and white (right answer, wrong answer) like most science/math based courses, but instead they help you reason through problems because the answer isn't always going to be right or wrong, but there may be some grey in there.

What faculty are you in, as it kind of depends on that. In terms of science, i found hthsci 3k03, 3i03, 4ii3 to be very useful..

well im in biology... but i dont mind if its from other faculties (although i think if it was form other areas it would be better, i dont want to be doing science all the time)

also the courses you listed, are you sure they are hthsci, i looked under the calender and cant find a single one of them

If you have trouble with writing, I found that History and Political Science courses helped to teach me writing more than any other classes.
Philosophy, English, etc., also have huge writing components, but I feel like History and Pol Sci techniques can transfer over into other faculties (while Philosophy has a very specific way of writing).
That's just my opinion though, it could be different for other people.

i like that idea on writing skills kathy, i feel like sciences really dont help out that much when it comes to writing and reading ( like good literary texts).... and not many science courses have essays or major writing components, its mostly just mc and labs. im planning on taking a couple relig studies courses to learn more about the world, plus they all have essay components which is really useful to lear.

also planning ontaking thtr 1t03 which also has essay components, and you learn about societies views on theater and film

Thtr was a really good course, I loved it. Another suggestion I would bring up is a philosophy course. Very interesting course material and the essays aren't incredibly hard, it's just the way you prove your point that matters.

Peace Studies 1A03

Really gives you a great insight to the world, and you'll either be exposed to a lot of new ideas, or you'll be given further insight to values you already had. I learned a lot, and it's the one course from all of first year I had no qualms.

You'll take away great debate skills, if nothing else, from the course.
