That means your accepted b/c on my letter from the school it said solar would be available to me as of the 14th as well.. so I guess it's the date that the people reinstated get to start using it! Congratulations ... I mean it wouldn't make sense for you to be allowed on unless you're in right? Just call in case!!! Hope I'm right ;D

I emailed a few days agoand should know for sure by next week. When i LOG ON TO SOLAR today it says

"Based on your current Registration and Payment Agreement status, you are not eligible to use SOLAR at this time. SOLAR will be available to you as of AUG 14 2012"

I think this means I will be able to get on?

MajorMak says thanks to lifesciman1 for this post.

Unfortunately my application to get reinstated into Engineering was denied ! and i only found out a couple of days back, the Councillor said i should try and apply to B.Tech ! im an international and im pretty confused as to what my next step should be,, i really want to get into the Gaming field. mac offers "Software Engineering (Game Design)" which is the subject i had planned on pursuing. got a few questions, would really appreciate if they can be answered:

1. Ive read about online programs. Just want to get it straight, i can complete these courses at home without having to attend any college for lectures or exams eh? and would the credits get transferred when i reapply back into engineering the next year ?

2. Will i be able to complete engineering courses and/or electives so i wouldn't have to repeat them if i get re-instated the next year?

3. would i be able to branch into any Game Design/dev field from B.Tech in the Future?

4. being international i usually have to pay almost 3x the fees of a Canadian resident, would that apply for Online courses too ??

i feel pretty anxious atm, i hope my questions can be answered. any other advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated !

2. I am not sure if they let you take first year engineering courses during probation. You can always ask the prof of a particular course and see if he/she can give you the permission to enroll in that course. If you want to go back to engineering, don't worry about electives, since you don't have to repeat those courses!

There's still a chance to go back to engineering and do software eng and game design. All you have to do is get really high marks in btech and get back to engineering. Don't take btech lightly as there are some tricky/challenging courses.

Talk to Sally Williams as soon as possible and tell her that you want to do btech, transfer into btech 1, work really hard, and get back to engineering I think you need about a 9 to get back. Now, since you are coming from eng 1 you are not gonna take a full course load in btech since you are gonna get some transfer credits.

Try to learn time management this year and work hard on your courses, everything is possible, so don't lose hope on software engineering !

Getting back to your second question. While it's possible to get a permission from a professor to enroll in an engineering course, I would not recommend doing so if you are going for btech. Your main focus in btech should be to work really hard and get very good grades. I am not saying it's not possible to get good grades in engineering, I think it's a better idea to stay away from them and focus on your btech courses.

Since you are interested in software engineering, I think you should focus on eng tech 1cp3. It's a programming course (C++), and I am sure that your gonna run into that if you do software engineering Also, depending on what stream your going for in btech 1, you will have to take another programming course (eng tech 1pr3, visual basics).

So, is it possible for you to study software engineering? Yes it is ! Hard work and determination should get you back on track !

If you go from engineering into btech, you will be given transfer credits for some courses, depending on how you did in them. For example, if you got a certain mark in chem 1e03 and transfer into btech, you will not have to repeat the equivalent chem course in first year btech. The same goes for other subjects like math and physics.

Unfortunately, this does not work the other way around. If you transfer from btech to engineering you will not be given any transfer credits, even if you did well in your courses. That's just how it works at mcmaster. I think the same applies if you transfer from mohawk college. I know some people who transferred from mohawk college into engineering at mcmaster and were placed in first year eng (not sure if they were given any transfer credits).

I think you should talk to Arlene in person instead of emailing her, especially when it's something that important. Just go to the Associate Dean's Office on the second floor of JHE and talk to her.

Good luck!

Great ! Thanks a lot man !!!
I would talk to her in person but I'm in international and I am currently out of the country :( ! Its been a couple of days since ive sent out the email. seems like I'm getting no where with the B.Tech admission. I might have to do some online course at Ryerson as my last resort. Idk much about Online Courses and I think I'm running out of time. Hope I get a reply from Arlene soon. Gonna call her up tomorrow and request her.
Cheers again Jim !
