McMaster Student Card = GO Transit Student ID (2009) goodnews.inc MacInsiders Announcements 10 09-01-2009 01:55 PM

You Can Now Start Using Your Student Card on the HSR

As of August 19th, you are allowed to use your McMaster Student ID Card for unlimited use of HSR bus transit in Hamilton. In order to do so, you need to make sure you have an updated validation sticker on the card.

If you're an incoming first-year McMaster student, you should have received your new Student ID Card in the mail (if you got your New Student Form in on time).

If you are a full time undergraduate or graduate student at McMaster University, or a full time student at Mohawk College, your bus pass is included in your student fees. The pass will entitle the holder to unlimited travel and is valid from September until April for McMaster Undergraduates / Mohawk College students and from September until August for McMaster Graduate students.

You will obtain your validation sticker at time of registration and it must be placed on your Student Identification Card. When boarding, show the driver your Student Identification Card with the sticker attached to get to your destination.

Fall/Winter 2013/2014 stickers do not entitle students to ride HSR until August 19, 2013.

To all those fretting about your sticker: Be patient! It should come in your mail. If you really don't get it, go to student services to ask about it

I think that's unfair to people who paid for the summer bus pass as well.

How?

The only thing 'unfair' is that they require you to have BOTH your 2012/2013 sticker AND your green summer school sticker to use the summer student pass

no, you buy pass from compass worth 70-80 bucks per month. And you can buy it only if you are attending summer school. 2012/2013 sticker has nothing to with it. So people who spent money on the bus pass for August are in loss because they could've have ridden the bus for free with their 2013/2014 sticker for half of the month anyway.

You can just use your bus pass, and pretend you can't use McMaster one until September.

Everyone's happy.

Actually according to the HSR website (link that was posted earlier in the thread) you need both stickers to be able to use the summer student pass.

And you could just use presto or something for the first two weeks in August and not buy the August monthly pass. Besides, you're not paying any extra for the MSU HSR pass to start Aug 19 instead of Sept 1, so why does it even make a difference to you? You're not really paying for the pass twice.

I totally agree that HSR is double dipping by outlining their fees and schedule this way. The amount of supplementary fees forced down our throats is insane. Can't even opt out of HSR fees even when you do not use it at all.

For stuff that you can opt out of, you have to do it yourself while the charge is automatically applied. It should be the other way around! The school is just milking and hoping that people will carelessly forget. I still don't know how this is legal! Imagine shopping at Tim Horton and they automatically applied $1 to charity unless you ask for a refund AFTER you paid for your order? Everyone would take them to court!

Everyone's happy except mcmastergcdb's wallet. People do work hard for their money and want to see meaningful spending and not just it being wasted.

The person is talking about the 4 months summer pass. You can't just not buy August since its included in the deal.

I still don't understand why would I keep my 2012/2013 sticker when I pasted spring/summer on my student card? Well it sucks cause other people are getting free ride while we had to pay extra. I could've bought 3 large pizzas with that money. :s

And using presto card will end up costing me more than the pass since I ride it multiple times everyday.

Exactly, I don't understand why do people have to opt out, but not in. It would make it easier on everybody. I can still undertand HSR because you never know when you have to ride the bus and it's not worth that much. Also a major amount of students ride the bus. But health and dental insurance are lot of money. And I didn't even know I could opt out in first year. And a lot of people probably forget to opt out in first year.

You just need to disagree with everyone in every thread, don't you?

Last year the buss passes started working September 1st. Why can't you pretend it's the same this year?

Also what, because he can use another buss pass for the last 10 days of the months, his summer buss pass suddenly lost value? Like he wouldn't buy it if he knew about it? It makes little difference, so stop arguing about little things.

it's only 30-40 bucks, which is not a lot of money. But it's about being unfair to people who bought the actual summer pass. A person who only bought it for August, paid around 70-80 bucks, it should've been 30-40 bucks because after half of the month you could just use regular sticker.

It doesn't matter if it is $1 or $0.01, being unfair is unfair.

Kudos likes this.

Or is it that you need to disagree with me in every thread?

One thing that you cannot deny is McMaster ancillary fees are increasing at a tremendous rate. From 2006 to 2009, the ancillary fees increased by 63%!!!

http://www.ousa.ca/dev/wp-content/up...llary-Fees.pdf

The University and even upper years student are doing disservice when they vote for mandatory fees like HSR and even recently for Welcome Week.

Businesses are not charity. This is just another way HSR use to bargain for more fees from students.

EDIT: By the way, I don't know why you guys kept on reporting and flagging my account for trolling. Just because my opinion and different than the hive mind doesn't mean I am trolling! Every discussion I have put effort in citing my sources and backing up my argument.

Remember Mark Twain!
