It's totally possible to get into a building you didn't apply to. It happened to me. I don't like how likely it is- just the luck of the draw. Hopefully, you get your first choice though! =)

From my experience, residence choices and selection is all based on your luck in this lottery system. if there is a certain building that you do not want for sure, then I would think the only way to try and avoid it is to have a longer residence choice list. that way, even if you get a low lottery number, the housing people can try and slot you in to your list and have more choices to go down. but aside from that, its all luck! i've had friends that didn't get their residence choice, but in the end it was still a great experience! so good luck!

ya, if there's one buildig you REALLY dont want, you can always put every single room type for every single bulding except the one you really dont want. Except in that case you likely to be stuck in a triple or something and most people would rather just take a building they dont particularily like over a triple.

Triples aren't THAT bad. There are ways to manage life in a triple room. Some people really loved being in triples. Some people didn't even notice that they were in triples because roommates were always out.

I was in a triple...but with only one person. Who was rarely there. Most of the time I had a single room...and with a balcony! It was pretty sweet.

I personally in the back of my mind am hoping I get stuck with a triple...I still ranked doubles ahead of triples because I know they will be better in terms of studying etc., but I wont lie....living in a room with two other people would be pretty damn fun

People don't study in their rooms. Well, at least, I never knew that they did. Haha! people go to the study rooms or the library or lecture halls to study. I was NEVER successful studying in my room. Also, if you take a first year psych course they will advice against studying in your room!

Its so often that people try not to pick triple rooms. But seriously, from all the friends I know that have lived in triple rooms have told me that it was an amazing first year experience.

Personally, to all those newcoming first years, just a piece of advice. During my first year I was able to live in Les Prince double room w/ washroom (my first choice). It was great to have my own private washroom. However, the fact that you are always in your room and not having many excuses to walk outside in the halls keeps you from meeting people and taking to people. Of course, you can walk out of your room and go to the common room to talk to people, but pretty much everyone is in their room. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to meet that many people on my floor (everyone was always in their rooms). Luckily, I had friends in other residences that I hanged out with in their residence (like Whidden) and it was alot of fun.
If I would pick again, maybe I wouldn't have put Les Prince as my first choice (not that its a bad res, it was nice).

Just something for everyone to think about. Trying something new and stepping out of your comfort zone is what univerisity is about.

From the housing site it says:

LOGIN - using your student# as your user name, and your birthday (MMDDYYYY) as your password.
Having Trouble with the online application? Try the following:

Turn off your pop-up blocker
Turn off your firewall
Make sure you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP as your operating system
Make sure you are using Internet Explorer as your browser
Try another computer.

If none of those options work, then I would suggest emailing them about it or try again later. If you've logged in recently, then it can't be anything wrong with your login and password.

I just checked my residence application because everyone else was doing and and I found out that I'm on the waiting list. Problem though-- I'm staff! Is that possible?

You guys still have to have a certain average, right?

Marks aren't finalized until the 30th. So I imagine once H&CS gets your final grades you will be either removed from the waitlist and guaranteed your room, or not allowed in res altogether.
