Math 1LS3
I think this course was very easy. We started at a very basic level (probably grade 9 math) with the linear equation and moved up from there. The last unit, integration, was the only major new thing but it wasn't too bad.
Your mark was the better of :
4 tests, lowest...

Don't we need it for practice problems and such, or no?

Sarah the practice problems in the COURSEWARE is enough. It has solutions as well as practice tests and practice exams... Even if you want to teach yourself.. it's too long and wordy. This is the type of course that doesn't try to trick you

Ohh I get it, that sounds so much better. Thanks Sinthu, I guess I'm still in the high school math mode >.<

How difficult is the exam in comparison to the four tests for this course? Are the tests written during lecture time or in the evening? Any info would be great.

The tests are written in the evening. Unless it's changed this year?
I found the exam and the tests to be of about the same difficulty.

Yup..there were two time slots back to back in the evening and you had the test during one of them.

Ah tests during evening, that sucks since I'm commuting. Around what time were the tests written last year, like around 6-7 pm?

Ooh, shoot :( More class time. That doesn't too bad, I guess. Were the tests on a monthly basis, or more frequently?

There is one test in sept, one in oct and two in nov.
http://www.math.mcmaster.ca/lovric/1LS3.html
Check that out for term 1 dates
Sarah, did you see the thread where it posted test/midterm dates for all first year science courses for the 2009-2010 year. It included MATH 1LS3 test dates as well.

There are 4 tests so..I think the first one was 3 weeks in? And then the other 3 were every other week from then. It seems like a lot but...the course is really easy and honestly, the tests don't require too much studying.

Sarah, here's the link for the upcoming dates for this academic year:

What's the hardest concept in MATH 1LS3? As well, do you guys cover optimization in this course?
Is it hard to get a 12 in this course?

Hardest concept I'd say..integration and the only reason I say that is because it was the only new thing we covered that I hadn't done in high school. But integration wasn't too hard. And I'd say if you did well in high school advanced fuctions and calc+vectors, a 12 is easily possible.
Yes you cover optimization but I think I did it more thoroughly in highchool than in this course.
