Lol...seriously?! That's kind of your own fault...
*edit* these next two paragraphs aren't directed at anyone in particular.
Honestly, everyone keeps saying how they're not surprised that it went down because it always happens, etc etc. You should save things on your computer, not leave things that depend on avenue until the last minute, knowing that this *could* happen. That was the first thing we were told in first year, not to leave submitting things online until the last minute, because all 2000 students trying to submit at the same time could cause a system crash. That was WebCT...and then with ELM, there was only about a 40% chance that it would actually be working, so you had to plan on it failing. Avenue is the best system so far. It's obviously not perfect, and it sucks when stuff like this happens, but people also need to take some responsibility.
It's kind of like the GO bus being 40min late when you have an exam that you need to get to. You *should* be able to count on the bus being on time, but really, the smarter thing to do is leave early and not take the last possible bus so that you have plenty of extra time to get to your exam if the bus is late, there's an accident on the highway, etc. If you don't leave early and then end up being late for your exam, you bear some of the responsibility.

I dunno, WebCT was pretty solid in my opinion. Its major downfall was that it had a lot of security holes. Aside from that though, it was really responsive for the most part.

Other than the capacity issues that I described, I didn't have problems with WebCT, but apparently it was an absolute nightmare from the prof's point of view, very non-user friendly.
