Thanks for the info lorend! And you're right Visual culture is 1B03! I feel a little better now knowing what I'm getting into haha. I also have another question... wasn't sure where to ask but ya'll seem like you know what you're talking about so here goes: Say if i don't have space to take a first year course but I need it to apply for a professional school (pharmacy per say) in later years... am I allowed to take that first year course while I'm in second year to make up for it?

I can't give you a definate answer, unfortunately. Each school will have different application requirements, so I can't really say.
Generally though, it is accepted for upper year students to take first year classes, even in their fourth year.
Alternatively, if you can't fit 1B03 in your schedule this year, I suggest taking 2J03 Popular Culture in second year (or third).

In response to those wondering if first year communications, mmedia, linguistics and psychology courses are easy:
Know that these programs are VERY INTERDISCIPLINARY and have extensive reading lists and work. These classes are of course interesting and are often popular with first years. Understand however, while these courses are interesting, if you are looking for a skape goat in your scheduele...try something along the lines of inquiry classes, or (no offence geo/enviro sci majors), but GEO 1HU3/1HS3...although the one geo class I took I found quite dull.
hope this helps.

the course material for Consumer and Visual Culture are both amazing.
I recomend the courses for anyone interested in pop/art culture.
If you can, take a cultural studies prof with Dr. Brophy, she is really passionate about the material.
hard marker though.

Yup, Brophy is an awesome Prof. So is Ouellette and Strauss. I've heard good things about O'Brien as well.
Aaand I have none of them this year! :(

anthro 1z03 is the more difficult one as you need to memorize the differences between the hominids, the difference in skulls and whatnot. anthro 1a03 has none of those same things to worry about as it's based on culture.
i haven't heard anything bad about health studies; i assume it's like all other first year classes

uhhh. i think i would say anthro 1a03, as i know more about that class than health studies.
however, if there is an aim for med school, health studies might be a bit better of an option.

honestly, i don't know.
you've got to write an essay in both classes (most likely 2 for soc). additionally, the observation portion of 1a03 can take some time

hey! Does anyone know more about CMST 1A03? The course description is pretty vague but the title 'communication studies' sounds like it could be interesting. So, let me know if u kno more about the course, how hard it is, and if there are lots of essays. Thanks!

Hey... I was also wondering about communications studies, like the person above.
I have another question though and it's about comparative lit. I couldn't fit inquiry anywhere into my timetable so i chose comp lit instead, since I hope to major in English anyway. I'm already taking two Englishes.. but is comp lit a lot of work?
