When I took Gerontology it was a full year course. The teacher was Dr. Justice. It was really really boring.....I mean REALLY boring.....that was about 6 years ago though!

some people find different aspects of linguistics to be hard. I could never get a hold on morphology, phonetics or phonology. Just a warning....it's not what I would call a bird course.

I'd like to bring this up for everyone:

"easy" courses are subjective based on everyone's own individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as who is teaching.

i found english and anthropology classes really easy. i have friends that can't write worth a damn, but find math really simple, which is the opposite of me. thus, they would take math-based electives, whereas i would take ones that focus more on writing.

thus, assess your strengths and weaknesses before you ask about classes, and also say what sort of class you are looking for. ie -- one with no essays. one with just straight memorization. etc etc.

I personally never took anthro 1A03, but also heard it was quiet easy and interesting. Both first year psych courses are a breeze (psych 1a03, psych 1aa3)- although, next year the prof who used to always teach it (or "run it" since its video lectures) is not teaching it anymore, so the test format may change.

It's video lectures because its such a highly demended course, so what they did is divide everyone into small classes of about 20 people, and run the videos, and there is a T.A. who is an upper year undergrad student, who can answer questions, runs tutorials and marks the group assignments.

Also, I heard the enviornmental sciences are pretty easy. If any of you are in science, science inquiry is easy too- just don't take the night version of it, the prof isn't that great.

hope this helps, good luck to all picking courses and coming to Mac next year.

This hasn't been mentioned yet... so I thought I'd ask.
What do you think of Cultural Studies and visual culture? It is tough? The course description seemed like fun for someone into arts .... photogrpahy and film related, but I'd like to hear some opinions

visual culture is 1b03 right? i forget if it's that one or 1bb3.

because of 1b03 and 1bb3 i added cultural studies as my second major.

to me, CSCT classes are for the most part really easy, and i find you use a lot of common sense for your analysis in papers and presentations and whatnot. however, CSCT is supposed to be more difficult than english, as there are no "straight" answers.

if you have additional questions, you can PM me if you wish, j_tsai17.

Amara* it depends on what anthro you take as to the kind of work. 1z03 has some anatomical components in tutorial. 1a03 involves observations which become an essay. 1b03 also has some sort of analysis in tutorial.

Curly-2, apparnetly soc is considered a bird course because everything is straightforward, and you only have an essay per term. that's all i really know tho; i never took it, just edited peoples' essays.

I took a couple of electives in first year I believe they were under CSCT which is Cultural Studies and Critical Theory. They were pretty interesting courses about popular culture and media and such. It was a nice change from the majority of my other courses.
