I'm going into my second year of commerce and took 1A03 during my first year as an elective. I ended up with a 10 and put forth a very, very minimal effort. I had Dr. Goutor (I could've spelled that wrong) and found the workload to be pretty light. There was no midterm, two essays (the first worth 20%, the second worth 25%), tutorial attendance and participation was worth 10% and a final exam worth 45%. I only did the readings when I had essays to write and skimmed through a few while I was studying for my final exam. I realize this isn't the best way to go about participating in a class, but it was one of my electives and I'm glad I took it because it didn't cause much stress. I will say, however, that the classes were extremely dry. I took labour studies 1C03 and 1A03 and I would recommend 1C03 as it was much more interesting. It does depend on the prof, but if I had to teach one to myself without the influence of a professor it would definitely be 1C03; 1A03 was too much of a big history of unions and labour movements.

You got a 10 in it without much effort though? And you say it is about unions and labour movements?

Yes and yes lol .. If you like history you'll enjoy 1A03 more than most, but it was really just like a big time line, beginning with the early pioneer families, working through the industrial revolutions and various strikes that had some kind of impact on labour. If you haven't already checked this out, it may help --> http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /calen...nt/pg1809.html
