Agree with everything in this review. The only downside for me was the material was somewhat dry. Bernier was good at teaching, but I found myself wanting to sleep whenever I went, which was only twice in the 2nd half. As long as you review the slides (and the completed slides were posted by students) you can learn the material and do fine. Like the reviewer stated, the midterm was hard, but the exam wasn't too bad. All the quiz answers could be found on the discussion board. It was one of the courses I worked the least in, yet I got an 11. If you don't learn the material from the slides it won't go well for you, as most is not common sense. The exam featured many 2 option MC questions, which gave you a 50% chance if you didn't know the answer. Overall I'd definitely recommend this course.

Also I would say that you shouldn't skip class, because although he posts lecture slides up beforehand a lot of the slides are just diagrams which he explains in lecture, and there is definitely stuff from diagrams he tests on the midterm and exam.

I'm sure that you also took life sci 2a03. How did the midterm in this course compare to the midterms in life sci 2a03?

Does anyone know if a textbook will be required for Jan-April 2012? Just asking because people mentioned there is no textbook, only articles that he posts up, but in the titles textbook listings there is a book called Earth System that we apparently require.

Me too. Has anyone completed the quiz yet? Is it based off the textbook? I don't feel like shelling out hundred bucks for another unnecessary text like for LS 2N03.

See is the library has a copy on reserve. Or just do the readings off a friend's textbook. Ask the prof if he will test you specfically from the textbook....honestly a brand new textbook isn't worth the price....that's what happened to us in Bio 2F03 - $140!!!!!!
