Are marks rounded up?
Supposing you got a 69.5 or 79.5 ect... is that rounded up to the next grade point?

That epically sucks. So I just lost 1 whole grade point over a fraction of a percentage...

Yea it really does suck, If you know your prof / the prof knows your face from class, you can talk to them and if you are lucky and they are nice they will up it by 0.5 percent. Talk to them, the worst they can say is no.... or laugh at you...

McMaster purposefully wants us to not do well.

Mac's grading system is a lot less harsh than the 4.0 GPA scale.

Agreed, it's only fair. If deserved an 8, you would have gotten it. Sorry to sound harsh, but I doubt many school round up marks. This isn't highschool. What you get is what you get. Some profs might round up if you ask them, though.

Yup, depends on the prof if they will bump you up. It doesn't hurt to ask, they usually will if you are within 0.5% and the prof is not evil

If they rounded up, every grade point would just be lowered by .5 percent and thus cheapening the value of each grade.

Yeah, I think the system is fair but it can be extremely unfortunate for some.

For instance, my friend has a 89.7% in a 18 unit course. So in a way that .3% doesn't just change one grade point, it changes 6. He's pretty pissed but I've convinced him to ask his professor for the small bump up to a 12

I wonder what his odds are of getting it..?

EDIT: lol @ my friend logging into my account and asking this, lolol. Fool.

Why is a 90.3 deserved but an 89.7 unfortunate? Just saying you never hear anyone say that they were lucky to barely get into the bottom of a grade bracket.
