I was just thinking. It says on 'Eligible for Consideration'. Isn't anybody who has a 9.5 sessional average
eligible for the senate scholarship? With that being said, shouldn't the note 'Eligible for Consideration' appear on mugsi for everyone who has a 9.5+ sessional average?

So if it says you're eligible there's still a chance of not getting the scholarship? Or how does it really work? Cause everyone I know who says 'eligible' ended up getting it last year.
Also does anyone know what "with the exception of those in their graduating session" this means? It's from the description for full-time awards like the Hooker one. So if I'm in my fourth year and graduating this year does that mean I'm not eligible for any scholarships?

there is still a chance that the university will not award you a scholarship even if it says that you are eligible. If you are graduating you can still receive the senate scholarship and receive a transcript notation however you will not be receiving any money

sorry. Correction. You will not be eligible for the senate or hooker scholarship. I don't know about other awards or scholarships.

I think you're thinking about the Dean's Honours List: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /calen...-12/pg131.html

I understand that the dean' honour list requires a 9.5+ average, however it also requires a 9.5 average to be considered for the hooker and senate scholarships

I think that's sort of like how limited enrollment programs require at least a 6 to get in...when in reality the cutoff is a 9 or something like that.
Basically, it goes to the top X % in the faculty. If the top X % ends up with a cutoff below 9.5, then 9.5 becomes the default cutoff...at least, that's how I see it. I think right now it just says "eligible" because they're still in the process of figuring it all out--some people's status just changed yesterday, while others have seen it for weeks.

Does anyone know how rare it is that a person gets considered for the scholarship but was not awarded it?

These are the cutoffs for the two awards (the link doesnt seem to work until you change the "(dot)" to "." in the URL)

I must say its pretty funny how you needed a 12.0 average to get the HL Hooker scholarship in hthsci
also seems like pretty much ever cutoff increased. grade inflation?

It states that the cutoff for the Senate Scholarship for the faculty of science is an 11.1. However, let's say someone received an 11.0, just 0.1 points shy of receiving the Senate. Since others in this forum have mentioned that individuals who are eligible for the scholarship but are graduating early or not returning in the fall will receive a notation, but not be awarded any monetary awards, is it possible for some leftover money to be awarded to individuals who were very close to the cutoff? I remember someone saying that they received an award in January or something.
Thanks!

As long as you did not graduate in the 2011/2012 year you will pretty much certainly get the $800 in January of next year (this exact situation, where people were off by .1, has happened a lot to my friends and they all got the money eventually).
