Stats 2B03 or KIN 3C03
Hey there,

To satisfy my B.Sc.Kin degree we need to take a stats course, either Stats 2B03 or KIN 3C03. I know that the Stats 2B03 just recently replaced Stats 1CC3. I'm not sure which would be a better choice, keeping in mind I would want to get a high mark. Basically, which course would it be possible to get a higher mark for those people who have taken them.

thanks

I'm not in Kin, but do you plan on doing a thesis in kin?

If so, I would take Stats.

Actually, if you are planning to do a thesis in Kin, you should probably take Kin 3C03, since it covers stats as well as apparently, some more specific stuff on kinesiological research.

Stats 2B03 seems to be more about applications to science, and not necessarily so much about research in science.

if you are going for a high mark, Stats 2b03 is very easy. Dr. Childs provides many sample tests and the actual midterms and exams are essentially identical to the samples. labs are also worth a fair bit and are very simple and are not necessary to attend unless you need help.

Does anyone here know if Kin 3C03 counts as a stats course towards a minor? I'm in Kin, pursuing a minor in math &stats, and I want to take Kin 3C03 over Stats 2B03, but only if it counts towards my minor.

I don't think it will count towards your minor.

In the undergraduate calendar it says: "In the case of cross-listed courses, students must ensure that they register in the appropriate subject for the Minor designation"

Therefore you have to take the course in the proper department. So only courses offered by the department of Math and Stats will count towards your minor.

I took Stats 1CC3, and Kin 3C03...they're completely different. Infact, Stats 2B03 is a little easier than Stats 1CC3 was, a few years ago we had the option of completing either 1CC3 or 2B03, and most people took 2B03 since it was easier (and counted as a 2nd year, by some stroke of brilliance).

For one, Kin 3C03 does not count as a stats course. It is more a course in research design than in statistics...although naturally, there is a lot of statistics involved in the scientific method, hence you will learn stats, namely hypothesis testing and things like ANOVA (analysis of variance).

If you are planning to minor in Math and Stats...then you should really take both. I mean isn't it the obvious choice? You have a major in Kinesiology, and a minor in Statistics...then why would you deliberately not take the course that explains how they come together? Particularly because, as was mentioned, Kin 3C03 is mandatory for all Kinesiology Thesis and Research Projects.

You require at least 2 third year math and/or stats courses...you should start considering which Level III math/stats courses you should take to fill your minor now.
