Student number vs. Student ID number
silly question, but are they the same thing? I'm filling out the New Student Form now and it asks for my Student ID number, but in my letter of acceptance I am given a student number (7 digits)

Yup, it's the same thing. The only actual number McMaster will ever give you is your 7 digit student number.

Then there's your OSAP number of course if you have that, but that's completely different.

Same thing. The only thing that's different is MacID, which is letters and numbers, not your 7-digit student number .

They're the same. First two digits are the year you registered.

OSAP number is, as Patrick pointed out, totally different. Make a note of it (if you have OSAP) cos you'll need it later.

EDIT: Oh right, there's your Mac ID too. But you have that already if you've registered for courses.

True, but that's just your barcode. I actually needed that number on occasion, but unless otherwise noted, just use your student number. You'll have it memorised soon enough anyway, gotta right it down on all your midterms/tests/exams.
