The thing is, for the first 10 or so years of his rule, he was pretty active. In addition to the fact that he was appointed vice president by El-Sadat due to his contributions in the wars against Israel as a pilot. People liked him back then. Then power just got to him, or maybe were just fooled this entire time. Who knows.

No one, not even Muslims, wants the Muslim brotherhood in power. Even when (not if) Mubarak leaves, no one will vote for them come election time. We don't extremists (although not all of them are extremists) running our country. We've seen how the Taliban was in Afghanistan and how Iran is like. People just want someone who will actually fulfill his promises, they really just want change and a better life. It's not all that much. But he just doesn't get it -____-

That's very interesting indeed, particularly because it's something of a glimpse into a propertarian anarchist / minarchist world, as well as a raison d'etre for police forces in general (namely, assuming a state of propertarian minarchy, the citizens get a bit lazy in organising property protection and use property to create a 'professional' property-protection niche).

the issue with the self-policing is where it goes too far. there was a report a couple days ago of an Al Jazeera news team being stopped and the situation almost turning to violence, since the neighbourhood-watch type group didn't believe they were journalists.

also, the reports of looting and vandalism in the cairo museum are terrible. looters broke in and were simply destroying and stealing priceless artifacts. http://reut.rs/hRueXX
