yay sweeet *sarcasm*

first thing I do now that I have "gmail" is forward to a REAL gmail account that I can actually access with convenience.

Seriously...no access/sync with T-bird, outlook, or android/phone/tablet? Thats complete BS. UTS, you never fail to disappoint.

I'm apparently being migrated because I can't login. How long is this going to take? I'm waiting on an email from my TA.

They said in one of the emails to wait ~10min.

There's an option for POP download and even instructions on how to configure your email client if you are using outlook or thunderbird...

Nope. not anymore. Ironic isn't it?

2 Steps ahead and 1back.

Under the current setup using a single sign on, you will not be able to use an email client either in POP or IMAP mode to view your email. You will only be able to use the web interface https://studentmail.mcmaster. ca. McMaster is working closely with Google and a number of other Canadian institutions who have undertaken the transition to Google, to determine the best resolution to allow students to use POP and IMAP connections safely and securely.

I am not much of a gmail user, so just wanna know what everyone else thinks about 'Labels' instead of folders?

I am not liking it so far, my inbox is always gonna be cluttered?

From the second email:

Quote:
Once you are no longer able to log in to MUSS (the old email system) please wait 10 minutes and then try to log in to the new email system powered by Google via:
https://studentmail.mcmaster. ca

Any questions, please email [email protected] .ca
And from the first email:

Quote:
Should you encounter any of the following problems on February 27, 2012 (post migration) please let the project team know at [email protected] .ca

a. Inability to log in

b. Absence of migrated MUSS content

c. Inability to receive emails (please make sure you do not have a forward setup on MUGSI)

Labeling is like the best thing since the invention of sliced bread...

In general: Get used to the system before the torrent of complaints, I'm just planning on setting up forwarding and using my main gmail as usual...

Yeah basically UTS said that we could either have the system launched in February without POP or IMAP or wait until they could provide that (with no date provided for when it would be available). With the number of delays and setbacks we had experienced with this project I was concerned that if this was not launched in February it might die altogether and so we pulled the trigger.

In terms of the cost, McMaster spent money on the integration of the system (they did this through UTS rather than a 3rd party) and the time/money they spent on developing the contract. The actual license is free as Google offers this free of charge to educational institutions.

Thanks for the info!

It makes sense, however I hope POP and IMAP come soon. a estimate out there?

Cool, did not know the costing worked like that.

You should even be able to login straight from mail.google.com.

it doesnt work for me on gmail app on my android phone

Okay, I haven't read through all 3 pages but iirc, old forwarding options from the muss.cis.mcmaster.ca account setting options should no longer work???

However, I just got my mail migrated to google and I sent a mail to my mcmaster email, it still got forwarded o_o

Even after I deleted the POP3 settings for my mcmaster email on my main gmail account.

What is going on ?

==============

Also, has anyone tinkered with the "Sign in on multiple accounts" settings for gmail?

I'm currently signed on to both my main gmail and mcmaster gmail on the same browser but it doesn't seem that useful.

I'm not able to view content criss cross between the two accounts and calendars/contact stuff don't seem to cross sync either unless you put in some extra settings.

Seems kind of a pointless setting other than being able to log on on both accounts at the same time in the same browser.

If you did not disable forwarding option on your MUSS account before it was deactivated then you will have those forwarding settings for 4 weeks (i believe the email said) until your muss account is completely deactivated. You cannot change this. Just have to wait.

As for multiple accounts...ya it seems pretty pointless to me.

Yeah... the multiple sign-on thing I think just lets you view both accounts at the same time. If you want to criss-cross content, which is very possible, you will need to configure it.

The only sort of useful thing this allows is if you forward mac email to your gmail, but need to reply, you can sign-in to mac gmail to do so without logging out to your gmail.
