One of the issues for the POP/IMAP delay is that they are inherently less safe options than using a regular SSL secured browser login. UTS has had to make a temporary concession due to Government regulations to go with the easier to setup and more secure option but I suppose at the most by the summer they should be able to activate Pop/imap.

yeah. you can set up those criss cross stuff manually. But there's really no point if you already have gmail imo. I think most people are just going to forward from macgmail to their own gmail like they did with muss already before.
If the content automatically criss crossed and the labels, contacts, docs, and calendars automatically synced in it might be more useful.
You could also send email from your mcmaster email from your personal gmail without logging on to your mcmaster email.

POP and IMAP are two different protocols by which a mail client can use to get email from the server. So essentially, for now UTS is only allowing the more secure option for email access, SSL connections.

MINE SWITCHED OVER! So excited. Though it makes sense, I'm also slightly disappointed we can't personalize it more.

Yeah you do, one of the reasons IMAP does not work at the moment I assume, since Google never actually gets your macID passed to them, UTS most likely sends them some encrypted key which google attaches to your username for login

All you have to do is add a forwarding email to your mac gmail account. And set a filter for "to" as your mac email (with studentmail.os.mcmast er.ca as the domain)
so [email protected] mcmaster.ca
no imap though

lol didnt you know? it notifies you when the person opened/read you message it was actually pretty useful cus then you would be able to know if they at least saw the email if it was something urgent/important like missing a test, or question about assignments and stuff. i noticed that profs and ta's would open/read my emails and then reply back an hour+ later.
