You do use the vectors section from highschool. In fact, you'll use ideas about vectors (sets of vectors, actually) to define a vector space in a sort of slapdash fashion, which is a very important idea in higher mathematics as a whole.

thats almost the exact same schedule i had, except i had econ 1bb3 (i didnt take 1b03) in second term and math 1b03 in first term... overall i didnt find it too challenging, despite people thinking i was crazy for taking 3 maths

i thought it would be easier for me to take math 1a03 and 1b03 together in 1st term (opposed to 1b03 and 1aa3 in the same term), and turns out there was some slight overlap with math 1b03 in physics 1b03 and math 1aa3

Concepts from math 1B03 should help you understand the little multivariable calculus bit at the end of 1AA3 - for example, instead of the fuzzy idea of a function of 'n variables', you can think of it as working with a function of a vector of n varying components. This clears up a lot when you think about the 'first-principles' definition of a derivative in more than one variable (you don't cover that in 1AA3, but it helps you actually understand a bit of what you're doing)

Actually you do (or at least you should) cover first principles definitions...it's the only way to 'understand' what a partial derivative is (and why if you're differentiating with respect to x, all of the y's are regarded as constants).

It makes the concept come alive when you can think of partial derivatives as 'slicing' your surfaces using planes, and performing calculus in the 'single variable' sense on the pieces.

(That being said, I agree completely that 1B03 will help you understand the later material in 1AA3 and subsequently 2A/2X03)

Haha, maybe I just wasn't in class for that bit, then. I definitely agree about the importance of the idea of picturing the tangent plane - it really motivates the algebra...

There was when I took it. The assignments were online, done through WileyPlus - same with 2R03. From what I remember, the Mastering Chemistry stuff wasn't graded (since I've never been on the site), but the assignments for 1B are graded.

Oh darnnn, that means I'll have to purchase the textbook and package. Seems kind of expensive, but if it's for marks I guess I'll have to do it. Thanks a lot .
