Grades
Hey guys,

I just looked at my marks, and they averaged out to 10.5.

I was wondering what this equaled on the four point scale. I assumed it would be a 3.8 because there is no 3.8 on the 12 poinnt scale (10 is 3.7 and 11 is a 3.9). But I wasn't sure.

Thanks

you have to convert them individually to the 4 point scale and then take the average.

Make sure you remember to multiply all the grades by their unit value, if you some classes with different unit values, before averaging them out

It depends if there is deviation inherent in your grades. Let's take two students' grades:

Student 1:
9, 12, 12, 12, 12 = 11.4 = ((3+1/3)+4+4+4))/5 = 3.867

Student 2:
11, 10, 12, 12, 12 = 11.4 = (3.9+3.7+4+4+4)/5 = 3.92

While both students have the same "average" on a 12 point scale, their 4.0 equivalent GPA is different.

Also, that conversion chart is obsolete. Queen's uses a 4.3 scale, 85-90 (4.0), 90+ (4.3).

Oh is it? If so then yeah I guess nothing... they really suck with releasing grades. With this schedule it literally gives them a couple days before winter break from the time exams end..

No I'm not.

And I'm not sure how "hard" it is...I know quite a few people who are in masters programs at UofT, in both biomedical engineering and molecular biology, so it's not impossible to get in, but I don't really know how to judge how hard it is to get in.
