It shows on your transcript...and yeah as stated above, higher chance of getting scholarships. Also potentially higher chance of getting considered for applications (e.g. grad school, jobs). Only indirect benefits...

Yeah, you get a certificate. There's a ceremony, at least there was one for social sciences where you get called up to the stage to receive it from the dean and president.

what??? i never got one after first year... any other people in engineering not get a certificate for getting in the dean's list?

Well, not all faculties have a ceremony... and you might have to actually go and pick up your certificate. I went with my friend to the faculty of science to pick up her friend's DH certificate just the other day.

If you are .1 away from Honors list, will any prof bump your mark up by one grade? Did that ever happen?

I don't think that happens in University, especially not after the grades have already been sent to the Registrar.

If there was a grading/input error, then that's a different story.

umm...a stupid question. How do you know you're on the deans honour list? Will they show you somewhere?

If you have 9.5 CA and above (30 units) - you are on it.

If you have a 9.5+ average, you are on Dean's List.
