Checked with the res admissions again today - they did confirm that there are two separate lists - one for first year and one for upper year. They really don't want to commit to anything - here's the answer I got:
We continue to assign rooms as cancellations occur, if you have not seen movement this is due to the lack of cancellations. It is difficult to predict the chances of receiving residence. As all our rooms are currently booked we may only give wait list students residence offers as spaces become available through cancellations. I encourage you to log onto your online application and view your wait list number periodically. If you are uncomfortable with your number please consider your off campus housing options.
There is a separate upper year and first year wait list. You are on the upper year wait list with 51 students ahead of you. We have specific rooms for upper and first year students. In order for you to receive an offer 51 upper year students will need to withdraw from residence.
So anyone know when I should start feeling "uncomfortable with my number"? You think they could at least give some info based on what has happened in the past - it's not like we're looking for a committment, just some guidance based on what they've done in the past.
Sheesh!
