I wish I knew that living in a traditional style rez isn't as bad as I thought. I lived in an apartment style rez in my first year and now, in my 2nd year, I'm living in a traditional style rez.

I have to say, I probably would have enjoyed my first year a lot more if I had lived in traditional style rez.

I wish I knew how to get a date. *Cough* That's honestly the only thing I could come up with for this thread. :l

I wonder what happened to the OP (i.e. does he have anything to add a year later). Last post was in July 2010. o.o;

First year exams are typically given (Friday!) nights. I don't function well after 19,00 hrs, so a 19,30-21,00 chem midterm or 19,30-22,30 bio final doesn't accurately portray my academic abilities.
If you are an evening person, I guess this is good for you...but my optimum functional time is before 12,00...

THIS just happened to me and now I know to always CHECK the timetable AGAIN before the term starts because it's possible that some of the rooms have changed. Ugh.

I wish I had started using ICal on my Mac sooner to map out where all my assignments are and what I have to do every day. It's a fantastic tool that works way better for me then an agenda or a wall calendar!

First Year is the year of gaining the most out of university...

don't feel scared or shy in exploring the opportunities around....there would be help available but one needs time management and organization.

I'd say just keep up with the speed of your profs and your are going to love it!
make use of office hours for questions that you can't do......ask like one kind of question which covers most ideas......show the prof you did your work and that's all it is!

Don't forget to give yourself one complete off from work....but you need to be on task for
remaining six days a week.

Dont be an annoying dick and email everyone in your class to ask for notes because you missed class. Just go to class.
first year was DEFINITELY easier than second, basically because it was all review from highschool, at least for me.
the most important thing to know is that if you take a psych class with Dr. Day, you HAVE to read the textbook. 20% of the test questions are obscure things from the textbook that were not covered in class. Do not make the mistake of thinking that just studying class notes will get you by.

It is a lot different than high school, i wouldn't say its harder just more challenging to stay focused when you have a lot of distracters

i found listening in class and taking extra notes that arent mentioned in notes posted really helped. sometimes profs will ask questions about things only mentioned in class. which brings me to my other tip: go to class and pay attention. if its 8:30, get sleep the night before. also, if you have more than one midterm on the same day, give equal time for studying. its still hard to do this, even in third year but its best if mastered in first year
